Dr. Linda George, a scientist at Duke University in the US, and colleagues tracked 13,451 people for 20 years to find out the impact of unemployment on the risk of heart attack. In 20 years, more than 1,000 people who had suffered heart attacks. When analyzing data from more than 1,000 people, the researchers discovered several trends. For example, those who smoke, are overweight, sedentary older and have greater risk of heart attack than others, the BBC reported.

But the relationship between unemployment and the risk of heart attack is the driver that the team noted. They found the risk of heart attack increased by 27% in new people and 63% of job losses in those who took the 4 times or more.
"That's quite a large proportion. It shows how the pressure of unemployment caused increased risk of heart attack. It seems scary unemployment than a stressful job," George commented.
Donna Arnett, a postdoctoral researcher in the American Heart Association, praised the research results, but remain cautious.
"No job is a condition that can cause stress to people. However, we still do not know how it effects to the heart. We need more research to find out the problem was," said Arnett.
